Complete Care Chiropractic Treatment Approach

As Chiropractors, we are interested in restoring function to your neuromusculo-skeletal system. A healthy body is maintained through a delicate balance of our nerves, bones (joint) and muscles. Allowing these 3 important components to function harmoniously is vital is assisting better health and well-being. Accidents, falls, stress, lack of exercise, poor posture and illness can all contribute to a deterioration of your physical health. Chiropractic care is suitable for people of all ages and of all levels of fitness. At Sydney Spine & Sports Clinic, we use evidence-based techniques that are considered safe, gentle and effective. Read on to find out more about the different approaches we use to treat pain, discomfort or injuries.

1. Motorised Flexion Distraction Therapy (M-FDT)

M-FDT is a doctor-controlled traction technique applied to a specific level of the spine (avoiding stress to unstable parts of the spine). It is a uniquely designed motorised therapeutic table with two movable sections connected by a pivot. By placing a particular spinal joint (disc or facet articulation) over the pivot opening, the M-FDT table is able to apply specific distraction to that joint in a continuous passive motion. Each treatment ranges from 5-10 minutes and serves to stimulate and accelerate healing of the damaged tissues, gently relieving spinal pain.

2. Diversified Chiropractic Technique

Diversified Technique encompasses a variety of different adjustments to address the bio-mechanical dysfunction (or joint injury) in each section of the spine. It is characterised by a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust which is safe, painless and effective. It is common to hear or feel a gentle popping sensation with this adjustment. This is in fact gas being released from the joint (like cracking your knuckles).

3. Activator Device Adjusting

The Activator is an instrument that was specifically created to deliver gentle and precise chiropractic adjustments to the joints of the spine and extremities to relieve pain and restore function. Device-adjusting can be 100 times faster than manual chiropractic adjustments. With the instrument, the adjustment is delivered so fast that the body is not able to utilise its reflex protective muscle contraction, and hence minimal force is required. The device can be used on anyone's spine and is very safe, gentle, and effective.

4. Muscle Release & Trigger Point Release Technique (Myofascial Release and stretching)

Muscle release and trigger point release are techniques that are aimed at reducing muscular and fascial tension throughout the body. By performing a series of stretches and relaxation, or sustained compression of a muscle fibre, your chiropractor can obtain increases in muscle length, increased range of motion and decreased pain in a gentle, safe and effective manner.

5. Myofascial Dry Needling

Myofascial dry needling involves using acupuncture needles inserted into specific points in the muscle to induce muscular relaxation. This is a very simple and effective way to reduce pain levels by deactivating trigger points. It can also be referred to as “Western Acupuncture”.

6. Postural Retraining and Rehabilitation

Improving workstation ergonomics and posture around repetitive tasks will assist you to achieve longer term, and lasting, results. We teach strengthening exercises to aid the body in holding on to positive treatment results. We also teach better movement patterns to assist in helping to avoid re-injury.
