Ankle Pain: Chiropractic care can help you get back on your feet

feet

When you think of chiropractic care do you only think of your spine? Although this is a true association, the bigger picture is that maintaining optimal spinal health can actually allow your entire body to heal itself. As chiropractors, our goal is to restore natural function to your entire neuro-musculoskeletal system. When it's in tune you are able to lead a mobile, happy and healthy life.Your body’s musculoskeletal system is comprised of bones and muscles which are joined together by connective tissues – like cartilage or ligaments. Your joints are the most vulnerable part of the entire system, with your ankles copping the brunt of your body’s pressure. Ankles are flexible and allow a wide range of movement. Therefore, they can be the number one spot to attract injury, pain or discomfort. Not only that, issues in your ankles can cause pain in other remote (and seemingly disconnected) parts of your body too.

How to treat a general ankle sprain

If you accidentally twinge or slightly sprain your ankle, the best thing to do is to follow the R.I.C.E treatment plan:

  • Rest your leg

  • Ice the ankle

  • Add Compression

  • Elevate your leg

If you find that you are still experiencing a level of discomfort, seek advice from your chosen medical professional. In extreme cases, we might need to send you for an X-ray to ensure you haven’t dislocated or fractured your ankle.  Maybe add:
